    Competition Guidelines:

Multiple Topics will be shared by the Event Planners (EP). Each school will pick one of the shared topics, preferably one that is not already an obvious problem in their community to encourage students to look beyond their immediate environment. As a minimum, each school must put together a team consisting of a Head Prefect, who will be the leader, a research team (made up of 2-4 prefects), a presentation team (made up of 2-4 prefects), and a campaign team (made up of 2-4 prefects).

It is entirely up to the SLO® at each school to determine how many members there are in each team and how many teams are needed, the numbers above are the minimum requirements for the organizing team. We encourage you to involve the biggest number of students as possible in this, nevertheless, the size of the teams is not as important as the quality of work the team produces, which will be reflected in the scoring.

Once the team is assembled, the contestants will begin working on their selected world problem by thoroughly researching their chosen topic carrying out an awareness campaign in their school community that extends over at least a couple of weeks. In parallel, the contestants will be preparing a presentation of their work (in the form of a 5-10 minutes Documentary) at the main SABIS® STARS Event to a panel of judges.

    Deliverables

    A- Research Paper

This should be the starting point for all teams, the contestants will research their topic to learn the depth and breadth of the problem internationally, regionally, but in your country/community specifically. Contestants should also investigate whether and how the problem is being addressed.
Research should be documented in a 1000-word research paper, which will be sent to the Event Planners (EP) before the event for review (deadline will be shared). The research paper should explain the problem and the existing solutions and will be part of the total score the team will receive.

    B- Campaign

Contestants will plan an awareness campaign to be carried out within the school community explaining the problem and the solutions. The use of social media is highly encouraged as part of the campaign. The campaign should be documented using pictures and/or videos to be used in the documentary.

    C- Documentary

Contestants are expected to prepare a 5 to 10-minute documentary, covering the below-listed points, that will be played to a panel of judges and the audience.

    The documentary should include:

    1. A brief of the topic selected and the problem identified.
    2. A brief of the different approaches to address this problem.
    3. An introduction to the team that helped put this project together.
    4. An explanation of the research completed.
    5. An explanation of the awareness campaign rolled out.
    6. A description of the campaign results (examples: number of people attending a seminar, number of likes/comments on social media, etc.)

    D- Question & Answer Session

The contestant representing the school, preferably the head prefect, will be expected to attend a 5-minute Question-and-answer session where he would be expected to answer to questions the judges may have about the project.

    Judging Criteria:

    A- Research Paper (20%)

    B- Campaign (30%)
