Important General Guidelines
Age Groups:
- Participation will be strictly limited to the levels specified in the entries describing the events. The school administration is expected to ensure that all students selected to participate in the contests are within the appropriate levels.
Accompanying Staff:
- Each school delegation should have 2 accompanying staff, one female and one male.
- School staff are to chaperon the participants throughout the entire duration of the trip.
- Staff should supervise and control the behavior of participants from their school and ensure the contestants are on time for competitions.
- The accompanying staff will be sharing accommodation with staff from different schools during their stay. Schools should make sure that the selected staff are aware of and agree to this fact.
- Should accompanying staff have any concerns they must be raised, discussed, and dealt with appropriately not only for the success of the event but also for the roles we play as educators and role models for the students.
- Accompanying staff represent their schools and ultimately SABIS®.
Participation Agreement:
- It is the school's responsibility to ensure that competing students have read and understood the parts of this guideline that relate to the event they are competing in.
- Contestants and school staff should not solicit direct feedback from the judges.
- Contestants can compete in one event only.
- Staff, parents, and friends will not be allowed to assist or help contestants in any of the events. Any assistance will be considered a breach of the competition’s rules and regulations and will entail penalties that would range from score reductions to disqualification.
Judging:
- Judging at the SABIS® STARS contests finals will be conducted by a combination of parents, school staff, and subject experts / field professionals
- The decision of the judges shall be final and binding on all participants.
- All presented write-ups will be subject to a plagiarism check.
School Qualifying Competitions:
- For each of the events, schools are responsible for holding a school competition for their students.
- We recommend that each of these qualifying competitions be held on a separate day, and spectators (other students, staff, and parents) are invited. This will help build the excitement and support of your teams.
- The competitions held at school should follow the same guidelines outlined below, which will also be used at the main SABIS® STARS event.
- The winners of these school competitions qualify to represent their school at the main SABIS® STARS event.
