    Competition Guidelines:

    Participation

    Levels

    • Individuals event
    • 1 contestant per school

    Competition Guidelines:

    Contestants will be given a topic to prepare on the actual day of the event. The speech must be between three and four minutes long.

    Two time warnings will be given to Contestants:

    • The first midway through the allotted time (2 minutes)
    • The second at full-time (4 minutes)

    Contestants will be required to give their speech without the use of a microphone; they must learn to project their voices. The Competition will be held in a large classroom except for the final round which will take place in the auditorium where microphones would be used.

    Judging Criteria:

    Organization (40 Points)

    • Introduction:
      1. Short and to the point
      2. Created interest in the subject
    • Main:
      1. Main point arranged in the best order
      2. Main points easy to follow
      3. Sentences are short and easy to understand
      4. Originality
    • Conclusion:
      1. Short and interesting
      2. Properly wraps up the speech

    Content & Accuracy (15 Points)

    1. Presented facts and information are sufficient
    2. Presented facts and information are subject-related
    3. Presented facts and information are accurate

    Stage Presence & Delivery (45 Points)

    1. Appropriately dressed
    2. Friendly approach
    3. Posture (Not leaning on the podium; Erect but not stiff)
    4. Maintains proper eye contact with the audience
    5. Relaxed and at ease
    6. Good voice projection and control
    7. Words pronounced correctly
    8. Facial expression reflect the mood of the speech
    9. Notes used without detracting from the speech

    Important Notes:

    • Time Penalties will apply: 5 points will be deducted from the total score for every minute, or fraction of a minute, under 3 or over 4 minutes.
    • Ties will be broken by:
      1. Accumulated Stage Presence and Delivery score, then by
      2. Accumulated organization score, then by
      3. Accumulated content and accuracy score.
